“Savage is a leading young light in a burgeoning movement” – Guardian Newspaper

Tom was one of the Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s ‘Everyday Heroes’ and received the ‘Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award’ in the UK.

Tom received undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in Business and Management from Edinburgh & Oxford, where he was awarded a prize scholarship for his MSc. After turning down a scholarship for a PhD, and being frustrated from a short stint in investment banking with UBS, Tom decided to leave to pursue his passion for green business.

Tom started a social enterprise in 2003 called Blue Ventures. In 2005, BV won the SEED Awards at the UN and the 2007 UN Equator Prize, as well as four Responsible Travel Awards and a Skal Eco-tourism award.

In 2006 Tom helped run Social Enterprise Day for the UK Cabinet Office, guest-editing their ‘Trailblazers Magazine’, organising events as well as co-founding a new internationally-acclaimed social enterprise, Make Your Mark with a Tenner with entrepreneur Oli Barrett. In 2007, Tom co-founded Bright Green Talent with an Oxford don, with offices in London and San Francisco. Bright Green Talent is now called Savage & Hall and focuses on executive search.

Tom consults to businesses, government agencies and non-profits on a number of topics, including social entrepreneurship, development, sustainability and environmental issues. He is also a regular speaker and writer.

Tom has served as a Director and Trustee of Young Enterprise and acted as a judge for the Guardian Public Service Awards and the Edge Upstart Awards.

More recently, Tom has tried to slow down and embrace the simple life.
